The Brief

Fourth Wall Events work annually with The Taronga Foundation on their headline fundraiser event. Each year Fourth Wall Events pushes the boundary of what's possible to delight and amaze patrons.

In 2008 Taronga faced the challenge of raising more funds than ever before for their new elephant enclosure, so they briefed Fourth Wall Events to “take the event to the next level” and put this event at the top of the fundraising circuit.

The Approach

Working with the Event Committee, Fourth Wall Events decided to use the natural elements of the Zoo to produce an event that has never been staged before. Based around the theme of Temple of Siam Fourth Wall Events used existing building supporters to create a spectacular seven metre high tiered marquee suspended in the tree canopy next to the new elephant enclosure and overlooking the stunning Sydney harbour skyline. This ensured the guests had a money can't buy experience that all involved were proud to put their name to and one that guests would talk about for years to come.

The marquee, which took over three weeks to build, was on a scaffold base that put the main dining experience in line with the top of the tree canopy. The marquee was decorated with hundreds of parasols and Asian birdcages adorned with orchids; the décor was complimented by a Thai inspired pattern design.

The Results

Taronga Zoo and the patrons were left speechless with the outcome. Guests commented that they were treated to an once-in-a-lifetime experience that they would never forget and felt compelled to support a charity that clearly delivered on all levels.

The Zoo raised the most money it ever had from the event, over $500,000 in a turbulent year.
