The Mardi Gras Festival

The Brief

New Mardi Gras engaged Fourth Wall Events to manage their headline events and the world famous Parade. These included outdoor parties in the Royal Botanic Gardens to creating the lead float in the Mardi Gras Parade.

The parade itself is one of the biggest road closure events in Sydney, with the participants coming together and celebrating, in what has become, the signature festival event.

The Approach

Fourth Wall Events worked with Mardi Gras numerous stakeholders to close down the city for the parade, including managing the requirements of police, fire, ambulance, City of Sydney, South Sydney Council, Centennial and More Park Trust, Premier’s Department through the Office of Protocol and Special Events, Roads and Traffic Authority and waste and cleaning management. The approach had to incorporate not only the hundred thousand spectators of the parade but handle all weather contingences.

The Results

The Festival was perfectly delivered for New Mardi Gras as it was profitable and sustainable for future years, while bringing together some of the biggest stars for an amazing party and celebration. The parade in 2009 had nine thousand five hundred participants, one hundred and thirty four floats and was the largest in its’ history.
