Eureka Science Prize

The Brief

The Australian Museum called on Fourth Wall Events to once again produce science’s night of nights...The Australian Museum Eureka Science Prizes – now in their 21st year. Having produced this event for over ten years and having worked with the client to carry out a full review of the program in 2009, Fourth Wall Events wanted to ensure this event was the Oscar’s of science. Given that 35 million people read, watched or listened to the news of the 2009 prize winners this title is certainly well earned.

The Approach

The challenges in producing an event about science are to ensure the delivery is accessible to, and understood by, all nine hundred guests while also conveying the importance of these scientific and journalism feats.

Huge vertical truss structures were created and then wrapped in white material, while horizontal white frames were made...all coming together in the air, taking over ten hours to build. These allowed for presenters to appear in the set, the colour palate of the night to constantly change and a dazzling award show to come together.

The main screen was semi-translucent LED with a content design that continued the smoke identity of all the communication material; the see-through LED allowed the rich colours to come through the content and meant all the elements played perfectly off each other.

The Results

Amy Cooper named it Party of the Week on Sunday 22 August in the Sun-Herald and with winners range from a highly commended 5 year old school child to identifying how chickens chat to the solution for the perfect sun-cream one can understand why.
